The second babies of the season are mallards

The first babies of the season were pie-billed grebes but the second babies around the lake were mallards.

There were at least ten ducklings. I also spotted the black-crowned night heron that was scared into flight by a fish during the rain on Thursday.

There were also a pair of ruddy ducks on the East side of the lake. That may have been the first confirmed male ruddy duck on that side of the lake.

The coots may be the next species with babies. There are several of their nests in the bulrushes.
