I've skipped over some coincidences from reading old posts of News from ME , but today's was mildly interesting. I read In the Crunch Tuesday, September 9, 2008, which mentioned a snack food I don't remember seeing before, popchips. I was curious if it was still around and found a minor surprise when I visited the website . I realize Mark didn't have anything to do with the movie but still found it coincidental. As a bonus, popchips are available at Costco.

The new fossa at the zoo is named Shelby

The new fossa at the zoo is named Shelby. She's 13-years-old and comes from a zoo in Florida. She has cataracts but is not blind like Jamba, the previous resident of the fossa enclosure who passed away last year.

Rainy day means mating day

Yesterday it was raining when I walked around the lake on my lunch break. The lake was on the verge of overflowing. I was a reluctant witness to both ducks and coots mating, neither of which seemed particularly consensual: I spotted a lone pie-billed grebe around the island: I didn't see the pie-billed grebe babies that I shot video of last week and a few days ago: Phyllis has been spending a lot of time lately with the ducks North of the pier but she still visits her old stomping grounds West of the island:
