Simon resurrected a post on the Unicyclist forum and I responded. He's on the verge of breaking 1km coasting on a freewheel unicycle which is a truly impressive feat, mentally and physically.
It made me think of some of the places I used to ride my freewheel unicycle that I haven't thought about in a long time, particularly where I practiced coasting. Some of the places I've ridden that don't show in my videos is Rocky Canyon Road which I would ride to and from Rocky Canyon Trail (the site of my Downhill Dream video). Down Rocky Canyon Road from the quarry it starts as a steep downhill with some up and down and eventually levels off. At some point you let off the brake and see how far along the straightaway you can get before needing to pedal again.
On the other side of Rocky Canyon Trail there's another Rocky Canyon Road that leads to Creston. It's mostly too steep for much pure coasting.
There's a nice bike path along the Salinas River that starts at Larry Moore Park in Paso Robles. There's also another short bike path at the end of the park that goes up to South River Road.
I still practice coasting but it's safe to say I'm not going to hit 1km:
